Teen Behind the Wheel Program Teens in Virginia under the age of eighteen must take 14 Behind the Wheel sessions. Green Light offers flexible scheduling to allow access to this critical instruction. Our exceptional instructors are certified to teach the Virginia Behind the Wheel educational program, and can ensure that you are well prepared for the road test. Sample Seven-Day Lesson Plan: Day 1: Push pull slide steering, mirror positions, lane changes Day 2: Lefts at solid green and blinking yellow arrows Day 3: Rights on red, parallel and perpendicular parking Day 4: City driving with emphasis on pedestrians, stop signs and bikers Day 5: Long and short highway merges Day 6: Parking, review Day 7: Road test followed by a required meeting with parent How to Register: 1. Once the student fulfills the prerequisites for Behind the Wheel, fill out the "Teen Behind the Wheel Contact Form" 2. Print out "Behind the Wheel Contract" 3. Green Light will call you to schedule 7 lessons; write dates and times on form 4. Obtain a photo copy of the student's permit 5. Obtain original “green card” or a driver education certificate for proof of completion of the classroom component driver education (If not completed, see Teen Classroom) 6. Payment Cost: $425 ($390 for Green Light 30-hour driver education students) Checks payable to Green Light Driving School Lesson Times: We prefer to schedule 1 or 2 lessons a week based on a child's experience and number of hours practiced. All teens need to practice between the lessons. We try to be as flexible as possible given teens busy schedules. See the lesson times below. Lessons begin and end at Green Light Driving School. Green Light provides lessons during the day if students have a free period and the school allows. We offer extra or private lessons for teens. Please call the office for details. Age Requirements: The minimum age for obtaining a Virginia driver's license is sixteen years and three months. To obtain a Virginia learner's permit, you must be at least fifteen years and six months. If you are under age 18, you must provide proof of successful completion of a state-approved driver education program and hold a learner's permit for at least nine months before you can receive a driver's license. The driver education certificate of completion is considered part of the driver's license application. Your parent, guardian or foster parent must list his or her driver's license or state-issued identification card number and sign the certificate to certify that you have driven at least 45 hours (15 of which occurred after sunset) and that the statements made and the information submitted on the certificate are true and correct. Certifying false statements can result in prosecution. |
