We are pleased to offer our students a flexible way to fit driver education into their busy lives.
 
The Virginia Department of Education approved thirty-hour curriculum and 90 minute parent/student course (see below for details on new Virginia Mandate) is broken down into clear, short segments with videos to help students absorb the knowledge. Comprehension tests are given after each section to prepare the student for the Virginia permit exam and to begin the process of creating a safe and defensive driver. The class is approved by DMV and fulfills the classroom portion of Driver Education requirements in Virginia.

Virginia Mandate: The 2022 Virginia General Assembly passed legislation that went into effect July 1, 2022, adding a new parent/student component to classroom driver education. According to the Virginia Department of Education, Senate Bill 78 requires all approved public, private, and commercial driver training schools to add a 90 minute parent/student component to the classroom driver education curriculum. Material reviewed during this class pertains directly to the hazards facing drivers, especially new teen drivers, on the road today. This 90 minute course is now included in our Online Driver Education program.

Online driver education is a fun and effective way to learn about driving safety. With access to a free online practice permit test and an expansive, exclusive video library, students will gain valuable exposure to the fundamentals of safe and defensive driving.

With online driver education, the student is in the driver's seat. Students can log in and work through the course at their own pace: anywhere, anytime, from any device with a high-speed internet connection. Your progress is automatically saved, so you'll always pick up right where you left off. With the newly created "National Driver Training" app for iOS and Android, additional features like text-to-speech and more are available. Dedicated technical support is available M-F 9 AM-7 PM at 1-800-942-2050 to troubleshoot any issues along the way. Upon completion of the course, students will take the final exam at our conveniently located Charlottesville office in the presence of a licensed instructor.

Students who complete our online driver education course will receive a $50 discount towards Green Light Teen Behind the Wheel lessons subject to availability.

DMV Statements:
  • The Program consists of at least 30 hours of instructions and includes components about alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, pedestrian and bicycle safety, handicapped parking, fuel efficient driving practices, motorcycle awareness and organ and tissue donation awareness as required by law.
  • You must be at least 15 years and 6 months old to take the online driver education course. All individuals who elect to take the classroom component of the driver's education course online must take the online course through a DMV licensed driver training school. Home-schooled students are exempt from this requirement.
  • In order to benefit from the course, you must be able to work independently and be comfortable with using a computer.

Steps to Student Completion of Online Course:

How to Register:
1. Print and fill out both the "Online Driver Education Form" and the "Parental Consent For Online Driver Education Examination Form."
​2. Mail or drop off the forms AND a check for $225 (made payable to Green Light Driving School) to 1924 Arlington Blvd, Suite A, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
3. Upon receipt of both the forms and the check, an instructor will register the student through their exclusive driver education internet portal.

Completion of Course and Final Exam:
4. The student will receive a unique username and password to log in and begin the course: http://www.usdrivertraining.com/login-va.php or on the "National Driver Training" app for iOS and Android.
5. Once the student completes the online driver education course, they will need to take the 50 question final examination in the office in the presence of a licensed instructor.
6. In order to schedule a date and time for the final examination, the student will text Green Light Driving School to (434) 979-5300.
7. On the day of testing, you must bring the following to the test site:
  • Photo identification (DMV issued identification card, school issued identification card, valid passport or military identification)​
  • Green Light Driving School will provide a computer for testing in the office 
8. The course automatically grades the test and reveals the results.
  • If the student passes the course, the instructor will issue the certificate of completion to the student. This certificate is required in order for the student to be eligible for the Teen Behind the Wheel portion of the course.
  • If the student fails the examination, the student will be allowed to review any section of the completed course to prepare to take the examination again. The test may only be taken one time per day.
